Control Neck and Back Pain with Medical Weight Loss

in Pinellas Park and St. Pete

A medical weight loss program, combined with nutrition and lifestyle counseling as well as chiropractic care, can be your pain management.

Dr. Kevin Lee, chiropractor and owner of Gulf Coast Rehabilitation and Wellness Center, noticed many of his patients were suffering from conditions like low back pain that could be treated or vastly reduced with exercise, diet, and weight reduction.

“So many of my patients were taking a pill for this and a pill for that, and I’m thinking they just need a prescription for weight loss,” said Dr. Lee. “A medical weight loss program combined with chiropractic care and nutrition counseling has led so many to a pain-free life off medication.”

Chiropractic care focuses on natural treatments curving away from surgery, narcotics, or other invasive treatment methods.

“Too often pain management is handled with a short-term fix like drugs or high-risk treatment like surgery instead of actually fixing the underlying problem which could be as simple as diet and exercise,” said Dr. Lee.weight loss healthy choices

Dr. Lee’s statement is backed by growing evidence that more and more Americans are addicted to prescription medications year over year. Drugs are cheaper for most people and covered by nearly all health insurance plans. It is much easier to pop a pill than it is to undergo a lifestyle change, not to mention less time-consuming.

There seems to be a tangible shift in the climate of healthcare away from the easy and convenient fixes and back toward the natural, safe, and healthy.

“I hope to see more insurance companies covering natural treatments that would prevent diabetes and heart disease from forming in the first place instead of paying for the treatment patients need after the diseases develop,” he said.

Extra Weight is a Problem

Many folks struggle to maintain a healthy body weight as they age, especially as metabolisms slow down and hormones change. Carrying too much weight is a sign of inflammation and stress of your body. Treatment of the serious conditions caused by obesity like diabetes, heart disease, and cancer can get expensive. Ignoring the issues can cause them to worsen to the point of affecting your quality of life.

The majority of patients are not surprised to hear they need to lose weight. Most, however, do not realize the degree to which most of their health problems are caused by carrying the extra weight. Most do not realize how much better they will feel once they shed the weight. The following symptoms are a sure indicator you’ve reached an unhealthy weight:

•          Lack of muscle tone in your limbs, abdomen, and back

•          Loose or extra skin in previously tight areas of your body

•          A buildup of fatty tissue around your middle section

•          Less energy and vitality

•          More prone to sedentary activities (sitting, watching TV)

•          Your clothes feel tighter or no longer fit

5 Tips to Losing Weight with HCG Injections

in Pinellas Park and St. Pete

HCG Injections in Tampa Bay are available here at the Gulf Coast Rehabilitation and Wellness Center. (Call (727) 541-2520 or visit http://gulfcoastrehab.us/ and select "Request Now" under "Make an Appointment" to schedule your appointment).

HCG is short for human chorionic gonadotropin which is a hormone the body produces during pregnancy. Medical professionals have discovered the HCG hormone increases weight loss when taken in small doses and alongside a structured weight loss management plan like those offered by the Gulf Coast Rehabilitation and Wellness Center.

How is HCG administered in Pinellas Park and St. Pete?

HCG is available in many forms. Our chiropractors provide it through injections.

Am I allowed a cheat day?

Oh the proverbial cheat day. Often when dieting, folks might take a day where they eat an extra serving of food or find other ways to splurge on calories and unhealthy foods one day a week or every two weeks. This day of wrecking the body with calories is called a "cheat day."

To stay focused on weight loss management, however, your chiropractor may suggest avoiding such temptations, especially while taking HCG injections. This is because the HCG hormone injections work best when you restrict calorie intake significantly improving the amount of weight you shed.

Here are 5 of our best tips for quelling the insatiable food cravings that are keeping you from leading a healthy lifestyle:

  1. Ditch the idea of a cheat day.

While dieting in the past, it was usually okay to take a day to go crazy. For your weight loss management in Pinellas Park to be successful, do away with any idea that you are on a diet. The changes we hope you make using our weight loss management and HCG injection program are changes we hope you keep forever. In other words, you are not on a diet; you are changing your life for the better, and you plan to keep these changes. This means you are scrapping the whole idea of the cheat day, especially while taking HCG injections.

  1. Build a new relationship with food.

With our weight loss management program, we will teach you a whole new approach to food and nourishing your body. You will begin to see that in time, once your body is nourished with proper minerals and nutrients, the cravings fall away and you find yourself hungry less often. Changing your relationship with food will change your life. You will feel lighter, experience an increase in energy and self esteem, and you will be far less tempted by calorie-laden foods.

  1. Avoid sugar.

One of the craving-causing culprits in food is sugar which is actually a highly addictive substance. Sugar may be found in many foods you may not expect to find it. Many pre-cooked food companies and restaurants hide a lot of sugar in their food. It's why it tastes so good! Detoxing oneself from sugar intake is important to changing your relationship with food. Once one abstains from sugar and other high calorie foods, many people report rarely ever wanting those "bad" foods anymore.

  1. Take a walk.

Building a relationship with food takes time. Walking can help you in the interim while you struggle with the food cravings and detoxing from sugar. A 30 minute daily walk is good exercise, helps you think clearly, and destress. Make the walk part of your routine by setting a time to do it right after lunch, work, or dinner.

  1. Drink a lot of water.

Did you know that a hunger pang could actually be your body's call for water? Water is an essential part of building your new relationship with food. Water helps to wash away toxins while providing the elements your body needs to function. Water will also quell hunger pangs, keep you from reaching for unhealthy snacks, and suppress cravings.

Did My Car Accident Cause Sciatica?

Did My Car Accident Cause Sciatica?

Posted From: http://gulfcoastrehab.us/blog/b_67605_did_my_car_accident_cause_sciatica.html

Did My Car Accident Cause Sciatica?

Your auto accident in Pinellas Park or St. Pete may have caused your sciatica symptoms. Sciatica is a nerve pain that begins in the lower back and radiates down into one or both of your legs. The condition can range from mild discomfort to utterly debilitating pain.

What causes this pain? Sciatica nerves in the lower back can become compressed, irritated, or inflamed from the force of impact your body suffers in a car accident. Read on to discover more details.

What Are the Symptoms of Sciatica?

Sufferers of sciatica experience a wide range of symptoms. The pain may be either constant or occasional and may be in one or both legs. The pain can feel like a numbness or dull ache. For other people, the pain can be intense and best described as “shooting” while reaching all the way to the toes.

You may have sciatica if the following activities cause pain:sciatica low back pain

  • Sitting, desk work, or driving in one position for a long period of time
  • Running, walking, or working out
  • Bending, twisting, and standing up is difficult or painful
  • Activities that require you to twist like golf or tennis
  • Coughing or sneezing

Did My Car Wreck Cause Sciatica?

The sciatic nerves in both lower limbs are quite long with many points that can become irritated. The force of even a minor car accident in Pinellas Park or St. Pete can cause the spine to misalign. Lumbar vertebrae (low back) can put pressure on the sciatica nerves when misaligned, causing pain and numbness.

Discs, the shock absorbers between vertebrae, may also bulge to one side due to the impact your body experiences from an auto accident. Disc herniation or “slipped disc” are often the result of trauma to the spine caused by car accidents.

Sciatica may develop over time showing up years after your car accident, often in your 40s and 50s. Depending on the severity of your car accident, symptoms may begin earlier. The condition is cumulative, made worse by poor muscle tone due to lack of exercise, years of bad posture, excess body weight, smoking, and other unhealthy lifestyles. Suddenly bending over to tie a shoe can lead to an episode of severe pain.

How Do I Treat My Sciatica?

Sciatica treatment does exist, and you should seek treatment immediately. The condition responds to chiropractic care, a safe and natural method used to allowing the body to heal itself through effective therapies and spine straightening and strengthening.

Unfortunately, it seems a lot of folks wait before calling a chiropractor in hopes the pain will resolve on its own. Instead the pain worsens which can lead to needless suffering or worse, long-term nerve damage.

Will Chiropractic Care Help Me Long-Term?

Chiropractic care has been scientifically proven to provide long-term relief from symptoms of sciatica. One such study occurred in 1990 in Great Britain. Researchers followed 741 patients suffering from back pain over a period of three years. They compared those who received chiropractic care versus those who received traditional medical treatment. The results showed that patients who were under the care of a chiropractor missed less time from work and reported lower levels of neck and back pain over time.

Is Your Fitness Level Lacking? Medical Weight Loss May Help

For most people, an unhealthy weight causes issues with physical and emotional health, self-esteem, and even relationships. The good news is medical weight loss and hormone replacement therapy (HRT) may be the answer for you. weight loss

Do You Have an Unhealthy Weight?

Although it is important to maintain a healthy body weight throughout your life, it is often something many people may struggle with especially as they age. Obesity is a sign of inflammation and stress of your body. Sometimes it can be an indicator or cause of more serious issues like diabetes, heart disease, or even hormone imbalances. Treatment can get expensive. Ignoring the issues can cause them to worsen to the point of affecting your quality of life.

Symptoms

You may have reached an unhealthy weight if you are experiencing the following symptoms:

  • Lack of muscle tone in your limbs, abdomen, and back
  • Loose or extra skin in previously tight areas of your body
  • A buildup of fatty tissue around your middle section
  • Less energy and vitality
  • More prone to sedentary activities
  • Your clothes feel tighter or no longer fit

Solutions

Medical weight loss is a healthy solution to weight gain. The medical experts at Gulf Coast Rehabilitation and Wellness Center will assess your activity, diet, and hormonal imbalances to uncover the cause of your weight gain. Then they will customize a treatment plan which may include hormone replacement therapy. Many patients start to see positive changes in their bodies as early as a week after beginning treatment.

An example of one of the techniques you will learn from our health experts is to try working out with a spouse or someone else close to you. Having a work out buddy helps you stay on track while losing weight and act as your cheerleader and a source of encouragement on days you feel discouraged. A few other tips you may try include:

  1. Keep a log of your daily weight. Start a spreadsheet or a simple notepad. Studies show people who track their weight every day are more likely to reach their weight loss goals than people who do not.
  1. Get a massage. This one is both physically and psychologically beneficial. Massages help loosen tense muscles in your back and limbs, great for when you are feeling sore from a work out. Feeling the touch of another person while you are in a vulnerable position can help increase your confidence.
  1. Exercise with a group at a gym or club. You may find yourself becoming friends with these folks and look forward to interacting with them. Also, the group will help keep you honest and accountable for missing sessions.
  1. If you reach a plateau after losing some weight and feel a little stuck, invest in a set of weights that equal the amount of weight you have already lost. This will remind you of how far you’ve already come.
  1. Look at yourself in the mirror. This sounds simple, but often people who are not feeling great about their weight gain avoid mirrors or just make a quick glance at their reflection. Instead take a moment to study your shape, your body, and your face as you work to stifle any criticisms that emerge. This practice can help you improve your body image.

Losing Weight, the Healthy Way

Losing Weight, the Healthy Way

Posted From: http://integratedmedfl.com/2016/09/26/losing-weight-healthy-way/

Almost 108 million Americans were overweight or obese in 1999. Until now, obesity continues to be a serious problem and is predicted to reach epidemic levels by the year 2020.

One way to prevent this scenario is to make people aware of the risks of being overweight or obese.

Here are some diseases that you are putting yourself in risk of if you are carrying a lot of extra pounds:

  1. heart disease
  2. stroke
  3. diabetes
  4. cancer
  5. arthritis
  6. hypertension

Losing weight helps to prevent and control these diseases.

The quick weight loss methods which have spread like fire these days do not provide lasting results. More often than not, dieting methods which involve dietary drinks, foods and supplement or pills do not work. If they do, the results are just temporary.

It is better to rely on a healthy weight loss option which will provide lifetime results. You have to set realistic goals and not expect to lose a lot of pounds in a short span of time.

Here are some tips on how you can lose those unwanted pounds the healthy way:

  1. Do not starve yourself.

The key to a healthier way of losing weight is: Do not diet.

You may seem happy and feel that you are losing those unwanted flabs on your belly and thighs by skipping meals. But remember that this would not last long. Your body cannot tolerate having insufficient food to fuel the energy that you use up every day.

If you get used to skipping one or two meals a day, your stored calories will be used up instead of the energy that should have been provided by your meals. So if you just eat one huge sandwich in one day, it will end up straight to your problem area (i.e. highs, buttocks, hips).

  1. Start your day right.

Mothers always say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Have a healthy meal in the morning to jump-start your metabolism.

Your food intake after you wake up will be used to burn fat all day long.

  1. Eat small, healthy meals frequently.

Five small-serving snacks per day is better than three hearty meals. Eating more frequently, and in small servings, can prevent over-eating. This will also increase your metabolism and make calories burn faster.

  1. Decide on how much weight you want to lose.

Keep your goals realistic. In the long run, it is virtually impossible for you to lose 40 pounds in 2 weeks. Have a mindset that you want to eat healthy to stay healthy for the rest of your life. Once you have decided on a weight loss plan or program, stick to it and make sure that you follow your own set of dieting rules.

  1. Drink lots of water.

Your body needs sufficient water to burn fat and keep your cells hydrated and healthy.

  1. Avoid too much sugar.

Plan your meals around lots of fruits and vegetables, some bread, rice or pasta for that carbo fix that you need, plus lean meat and protein rich-foods. Sweets, sodas and pastries should be once-in-a-while indulgences only.

  1. Watch your fat intake.

Fat is not the culprit to being overweight. You need this to keep your weight at the proper level.

There is such a thing as healthy fats. Olive, peanuts and canola oil have them. Tuna, salmon and mackerel have omega-3 fats which is good for the heart.

  1. Exercise.

Leave your car if you are only going a few blocks from home, take the stairs instead of the elevator, jog, cycle or skate. Use these activities and other home chores if you are too lazy to go to the gym and take exercise classes. Make sure that you do this regularly and you will not even notice that you are already shedding pounds with these mundane activities.

It does not matter how much weight you plan or need to lose. What is important is that you set realistic goals for yourself.

Go slow. If you have already lost 5 or 6 pounds, give yourself a break then try to lose the next 5 pounds.

Eat healthy, drink lots of water, have enough sleep and exercise. This will give you a higher chance of losing weight and improving your health, which would result to a new, healthier you.
